Located 70 kilometres inland from Whakatane, Galatea is a very attractive valley with flat fertile soils that grows grass like a factory. The 179 hectares has been milking 400 cows once-a-day (year-round) for a three-year average production of 140,000 milksolids as well as rearing up to 300 calves. This year the numbers have been bumped up to 440 with production well up on last year.
Completely flat land provides the opportunity for production and ease of management. Effluent is a tank system spread via travelling irrigator. The milking platform of approximately 140 hectares effective ( a further approx. 26 hectares carries calves intensively) is well subdivided and serviced by a solid race system. Farm water supply is via bore and reticulated around the farm via mains to troughs in all paddocks. Improvements that further compliment this dairy unit is a 22 aside milking shed, a 19 bay calf rearing shed, four bay tractor shed, three bay high stud shed and a disused cowshed for handling young stock. The sharemilker has been rearing approximately 300 calves on the farm, 90 replacements and the rest bulls which are fed-lotted for nearly 12 months, on the adjoining land.
Accommodation is a renovated three bedroom whether board home plus sleep out and another three bedroom house. The owners enjoy the beach so much checking on the farm is no longer a priority. If you are looking to expand or are a first farm buyer looking for scale don't let this one slip by!

Galatea is a traditional farming district and is well supported by a local FarmSource store, vets and other rural providers such as contractors and engineers. Good primary schooling is close by along with sporting clubs including golf and squash. For the outdoors enthusiasts the lake area on the Rangitaiki provide an excellent place for water sports and is well used and enjoyed by the locals not to mention grabbing a trout for tea; you also have excellent hunting and tramping areas close by with the Te Urewera National Park as the back drop of Galatea. Few regions in New Zealand or the world for that matter have as much to offer as the Bay of Plenty. From the gentle harbour waters to its surf beaches, its fishing and diving grounds to the scenic bush, the Bay is as much a quiet recreational playground as it is a thriving business and rural community.
