The Kreisler family acquired this house in 1972, instantly attracted to a home they knew would showcase their antiques, colonial furniture, contemporary art, textiles and artifacts from their forebears and overseas travels. Known as one of the "Hen and Chickens" cottages, constructed from 1864 and now protected as an important example of early NZ architecture.

The Kreislers made significant and sympathetic adjustments to the original building, closing in part of a verandah to create an expanded bedroom + sunroom, adding a kitchen, bathroom and large studio space. For its era, the spacious interior feels light and airy with interesting features such as original French/barn doors centre front and ornate fireplaces. Kauri and Rimu warmth abound!
