The iconic Kauri Timber Building is situated across from Auckland’s vibrant Viaduct Harbour. The area is home to the head offices of some of the largest companies in New Zealand.
The Kauri Timber Building is one of only three heritage buildings remaining on the Freeman’s Bay shoreline and it has a unique and impressive history. It was the powerhouse of New Zealand industry in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The new Fanshawe Street façade occupies a well-proportioned, vertical and rectangular plane. The structure will be rolled into a series of linked arcs, with screens referencing the massed logs once collected in this part of the waterfront, for processing.
The building has been lovingly restored to 100% of earthquake code whilst retaining the charm and character of its original heritage. Complimented by the development of a new dynamic structure which will rise up above Fanshawe Street and demand attention.
