KEY POINTS
LOCATION
With the growing Christchurch population Lake Brunner has grown as a township where people come for holidays with their boats and water crafts. The largest lake on the West Coast, next to the Moana township, is highly prized by Tangata Whenua and a mecca for year-round trout fishing. Some of our best days are in winter with crisp, clear days and uninterrupted views of the Southern Alps. Take your pick from a range of water activities – jet boating to yachting, swimming to kayaking, paddle boarding to just taking time to unwind the lake provides opportunities for all. Lake Brunner is the largest lake on the West Coast. The lake and some of the surrounding rivers and streams are renowned for brown trout fishing with year round fishing in the lake and some of the rivers. Most of the lake is only able to be reached by boat though some areas can be walked to especially when the lake is low in mid to late summer. It is fed by a number of small rivers and streams all of which offer excellent fishing opportunities where they enter the lake. At the northern tip is the small settlement of Moana.
