It's rare for hop properties of this calibre to come onto the market, especially one of this scale and with such comprehensive facilities. This is the first and only major hop garden available in some time. It's no secret that the market as a whole but in particular the hop industry has been through some tough times of late, but an opportunity like this would not surface when the industry was thriving and the hops were flying out the door, and the medium to longer outlooks is looking better and better every day, and as we all know, things can swing very fast, so this is the perfect time to position yourself for future growth.
The 18.6-hectare hop garden features a diverse range of varieties, including Motueka (3.3 ha), Nelson Sauvin (8.4 ha), Riwaka (0.5 ha), Wakatu (1.5 ha), Kohatu (1.3 ha), Dr. Rudi (0.9 ha), and Nectaron (2.7 ha), all currently supplying New Zealand Hops.
In or around 2019, a fully customized post-harvest facility was constructed, featuring a state-of-the-art hop-picking shed equipped with a Dauenhauer hop-picking machine, alongside a four-level stacking kiln with louvered floors. This facility was designed to handle and dry the entire hop yield from the property, and still has plenty of spare capacity with it being constructed with future expansion in mind.
Looking ahead, there is significant potential for growth. The total property spans 32.9 hectares, of which only 18.6 hectares are currently planted with hops, leaving ample room for further growth.
Water is sourced from two separate water rights, including one from the Tadmor Valley Irrigation Scheme, and the other a resource consent to draw water from the Tadmor River.
