Designed by James Warren, Upoko Architects, this light filled 6m x 6m 'cabin' is hidden in a clearing amidst the West Coast Nikau Forest close to the wild coastline of the Tasman Sea.
Our clients instructions are clear despite owning and tending the land for several years. During this time they developed an understanding of the site and its surrounding environment - the bush, the climate the furred and feathered inhabitants. A considered design to capture the spirit of this West Coast living - almost invisible - a timber box floating in the bush.
Stylish over wall sliders bring the outdoors in on 3 sides of the living room meaning you can be at one with nature. Easy to work in with everything you need, the kitchen sits open plan to the dining area which opens to full double height creating a true sense of space. Both bedrooms sit on the upper mezzanine level, with floor to ceiling windows giving the feeling of being suspended amidst the tree tops.
Wanting to impose on the site as little as possible, and in keeping with the couple's gentle relationship with the land, everything that is created in waste on the site gives back to the bush.
The Punakaiki Coast is the jewel of the South Island's West Coast being only 45mins to Westport & Greymouth where there is an airport connecting to Wellington. It is renowned for its dramatic scenery, secluded beaches and the famous Pancake Rocks. One of NZ's greatest walks is the new Paparoa Track which is not only open to walkers but also to mountain bikers 12 months of the year. Bikers claim it to be one of the NZ's best mountain bike trails.
A rare opportunity awaits - you can feel as though you belong at one with the bush. Please contact the listing agent to arrange a viewing and copy & paste the following to download the property documents:-
